Week 3-Continuous, Organizational, and Contour Line Drawings

Contour Line Drawing

Continuous Line Drawing
Organizational Line Drawing

Week 3- Gesture Drawings

These were quick 1 minute poses.  I was attempting to capture the fun the person posing was having.

This was hard for me.  A contour line drawing where the cat was captured drinking out of the fish tank.

Quick one minute poses where the subject was showing different emotions.

I was trying to capture specific poses at soccer practice.

I was experimenting with mass and scribbling line for the background

Still Life Objects-Painted White

Still Life Objects
For this assignment I painted white a graham cracker box for the rectangular box, ball for the sphere, peanut butter jar for a cylinder and a gift box for the cube. The cone shape I made out of cardboard.  I found the peanut butter jar the most difficult to paint as the paint peeled off from the plastic so I had to use many, many coats to get it to stay.

Unified Drawings

Exploration in ink

One of my favorite mediums a soft charcoal

A mixture of hard charcoal and drawing 4, HB, F pencils.

Week 2

This is one I worked on using ink. It is an unforgiving medium. I enjoyed the bold color. I found it challging only because I tend to get caught in the details and tend to be afraid of making a mistake.  Ink has a lot of potential in taking me out of my comfort.  This is a bamboo stalk.
This is an example using continuous line which I did in a medium charcoal.  I tend to like the charcoals for their smudging properties.  This one was fun and I enjoyed the process though have to admit I made quite a few before I was able to relax and just let the lines appear.
This is an example of a blind contour line drawing done with a basic HB 4 drawing pencil.  I chose this one only because it was the hardest for me to chose.  It lacks controled detail with only the outline being displayed without "seeing" what I doing on paper.

Mia Arayjo's "An Ocean of Memories"

The drawing titled “An Ocean of Memories” by Mia Araujo is the ideal drawing for me today.  It is complex in nature both in line and subject matter.   It signifies more than drawn lines or figures on the paper,  it shares the thoughts, emotions and message of the artist through the tone and choice of subjects.  The artist is working though her thoughts and ideas on possibly her life or of life in general.

Her finished version. Click here for a link to this and others of her work.
